What are the most common side effects of laser vision correction?

1. Fluctuating Vision. After LASIK, the eye can continue to heal for up to 3 months after the date of surgery. A small number of patients may notice vision fluctuations during this healing process. NewLASIK technologies that we offer have greatly decreased the amount of time it takes for the eyes to heal. This, in turn, has decreased the vision fluctuations noticed during that time frame.
2. Dry eyes. LASIK involved removing and reshaping tissue from the cornea, the clear front part of your eye. This tissue is also partly responsible for keeping the eye as moist as possible. After LASIK, we instruct our patients to use preservative-free artificial tears as often as possible. This not only makes your eyes feel better, it also promotes an ideal healing environment after surgery. Most patients only notice dryness for the first few weeks after surgery, if any.
3. Night vision glare. LASIK involves reshaping only a small portion of your cornea. At night, the pupil of your eye gets bigger to allow more light in the eye. In many cases, the pupil extends past this LASIK treatment zone. This can cause the perception of glare or halos around traffic lights. New LASIK technologies, such as our CustomVue LASIK procedure, have greatly decreased this perception among our patients.

1. The bladder is examined carefully with the cystoscope 
2. Anesthesia is applied
3. Botox is injected into the bladder wall through a special needle passed through the scope directly. 

After the Procedure patients will notice a reduction in their urinary frequency and urgency about 5 days. (sigh of relief)  

Symptoms to know

There are a few reported side effects and usually the effects will clear within a few days after the procedure.

• Blood in the urine 
• Bladder infection  (antibiotics are typically given as a precaution after the procedure.)
•  About 1 in 10 to 1 in 20 patients describe difficulty emptying the bladder after the procedure and may need to pass a urinary catheter intermittently to achieve complete emptying of the bladder for a few weeks post op.

Lasik surgery is generally not recommended for patients presenting with non correctable vision problems. (we're talking about magnifying glasses for your eyes!)
Non correctable vision problems may include any condition where the vision cannot be corrected to a useful degree with either

• glasses
• contacts
• or refractive surgery (Lasik/PRK)

Lasik is usually not recommended for patients that have abnormally thin, extremely warped, or extremely damaged corneas (the clear window at the front of the eye).

Yikes! Seeing double? Lasik is also not recommended for people that present with double vision because of an abnormal eye turn (strabismus) that is only corrected with glasses, it is recommended that these patients be consulted by a strabismus surgeon prior to proceeding with Lasik.

 Lasik surgery is generally not performed on patients with active ocular disease or infection, as well as patients with certain uncontrolled system problems, such as uncontrolled diabetes.
