Why Do Women Choose Lasik Eye Surgery Over Contact Lenses?

In the U.S. there are estimated to be 36 million contact lens wearers and two-thirds being female. If you happen to be one of these 36 million, you may be struggling with taking the proper daily steps for caring for your contact lenses. You know the drill: First, wash your hands with soap and water and thoroughly dry with a clean towel. Next, gently take the contact lens out of your eye, apply solution and gently clean the lenses with the pads of your fingers for 30 seconds. Open up your contact lens case, fill both sides with solution, and finally, lightly drop your contact lenses into the solution. Repeat this process every time you sleep, shower or swim. In order to properly care for your contacts, and to avoid any long term vision damage, all these steps should be taken accordingly.Women who wear contact lenses may have some trouble wearing makeup
For women who wear makeup, caring for contact lenses becomes a bit more complicated. Women should make sure to put contact lenses in before applying makeup, and should make sure to take them out before removing makeup. Even, if you are taking these proper steps, there are still other factors that can irritate, dry out or infect your contact lenses. How many women have been blinded by an eyelash that has been coated in their favorite, voluminous mascara? Or has had their favorite eye shadow fall into their eye, and under their contact lens, creating irritation and a cataract effect? If not treated properly, all these factors could lead to future vision damage. Want an easier solution to contact lenses? LASIK eye surgery may be just what you have been longing for!

LASIK: The Alternative to Contact Lenses

Forgetting, misplacing, rubbing, tearing, scratching, losing, itching, these are only a few words that could describe wearing contact lenses. Laser vision correction is a great alternative to wearing contact lenses. Could you imagine, never having to worry about irritating your eyes while applying makeup? Never having to constantly put in or take out a foreign object from your eyes on a daily basis? How about, waking up without stumbling to find your contact lenses in order to see your surroundings? Lasik eye surgery can provide all these positive, life changing opportunities plus more!
If you have any questions about laser vision correction surgery, call Global Laser Vision at 1-800-GET-LASIK or visit us at San Diego Lasik Center Global Laser Vision.

How to permanently change your eye color

Brown Eyes Turn Blue: The Laser Procedure that Permanently Changes Eye Color

According to Strōma Medical Corporation's founder, many people would like to turn their brown eyes blue. Strōma Medical Corporation web

"We all have blue eyes."

So begins the website copy for Strōma Medical Corporation, located in shimmering Southern California. The site, which is positively littered with photographs of beautiful blue-eyed people, advertises a treatment that will permanently change brown eyes into blue.
"In the case of brown eyes, however, a thin layer of brown pigment covers the front surface of the iris (the colored part of the eye). The Strōma laser disrupts this layer of pigment, causing the body to initiate a natural and gradual tissue-removal process. Once the tissue is removed, the patient's natural blue eye is revealed."
As described by Strōma Medical, the ease of this new, non-invasive procedure, which takes just 20 seconds to complete, sounds positively futuristic.Actually, it is.

Dr. Homer - Inventor
Patients will watch a short animated sequence while a computer-guided laser works its magic, The New York Daily News reported. "You won't feel anything," Homer told the paper. "Your eyes will get a little darker for the first week. Then in two to four weeks, they'll be completely changed."
After completing the treatment, which is expected to cost about $5,000, the brown pigment won't return, claimed Homer.
Homer expects his company will spend another year conducting research on the treatment to satisfy the requirements of multiple regulatory bodies. Still, he is confident the procedure doesn't cause tissue damage and, to date, no adverse events have been reported. The procedure has only undergone limited study inhumans; Strōma Medical will treat about 20 patients in an upcoming initial pilot clinical study. Upon successful completion of that pilot study, the company plans to treat about 100 patients in multiple countries and follow them for a predetermined length of time. In a poll of 2,000 patients, Homer told The Daily News that 17.5 percent said they would seek the treatment.

10 Fat Fighting Foods to Eat

10 Fat Fighting Foods to Eat

When you’re trying to lose weight, it can be demoralizing to constantly be reminded of all the foods you should not be eating. But some foods are ideal for weight control. Dubbed “fast foods” or “edible amphetamines”, some foods help speed up the metabolism and break down fat.
Others nurture the liver or keep you full for longer. But there are no “zero-kilojoule” foods, says Laura Sutherland, dietitian and spokesperson for the Dietitians Association of Australia.
“Foods can play a part in minimising our build-up of fat storage, but the real key is energy in versus energy out – not taking in too many extra kilojoules and burning off a little extra.” Here are the ten best foods to reach for.

1. Lean meat

Why you can eat up: Researchers in Denmark found boosting the lean protein in your diet may help you burn five per cent more kilojoules a day, perhaps because it takes more energy to digest protein than carbohydrates or fat. Sutherland says lean meat’s benefit is satiety. “A meal with lean protein makes you feel satisfied, which helps to avoid overeating later.”
How to eat: Opt for lean pork, chicken or turkey and remove any skin beforehand.

2. Low-fat milk, cheese, yoghurt

Why you can eat up: A US study found consuming about 1300 milligrams of calcium a day helped people lose almost twice as much weight. Another study found post-menopausal women who consumed calcium with vitamin D supplements put on less weight than those who didn’t. It is thought calcium may break down fat cells and suppress the growth of new ones.
How to eat: Eat low-fat yoghurt and add reduced-fat or cottage cheese to a sandwich.

3. Berries and citrus fruits

Why you can eat up: Vitamin C-rich foods contain flavones, compounds that increase metabolism, control cholesterol levels and help dilute fats. A US study found women with a high-flavone diet gained less body fat over 14 years than those not on the diet. Another study found eating strawberries and raspberries before exercise helped burn up to 30 per cent more fat.
How to eat: Try fresh orange juice, a fruit smoothie or a handful of berries before gym.

4. Soybeans, chickpeas, lentils
Why you can eat up: “Legumes, lentils, soybeans and chickpeas are a mix of protein and carbohydrate,” says Sutherland. They’re low in fat, high in fibre and have a low glycaemic index (GI). Soybeans also contain choline, a component of lecithin which helps to move fat from the liver.
How to eat: Add to soups, curries or stir-fries.

5. Salmon, avocado, nuts, ground flaxseed

Why you can eat up: Oily fish and plant-based fats contain essential fatty acids that help burn fat. Research shows adding a handful of walnuts or almonds to a low-fat diet daily helps to reduce weight, body fat and insulin levels. Fish has also been found to lower women’s levels of leptin, a hormone linked to a slower metabolism and obesity.
How to eat: Eat a handful of unsalted, unroasted nuts, add flaxseed to cereal or yoghurt, eat avocado and salmon sandwiches.

6. Cinnamon

Why you can eat up: US Agricultural scientists found adding just a quarter teaspoon of cinnamon to your diet can boost your sugar metabolism, lower blood sugar levels and help you store less fat.
How to eat: Add to yoghurt or smoothies.

7. Sweet potatoes, oats, wholegrain cereal

Why you can eat up: The high soluble fibre content and low GI keep you full for longer. “This helps regulate blood glucose levels [so] you don’t want to snack,” says Sutherland.
How to eat: Eat porridge, wholegrain sandwiches, lean meat and sweet potatoes.

8. Chilli, cayenne pepper

Why you can eat up: Studies show that people who eat spicy foods consume less kilojoules and carbohydrates than those with milder tastebuds. Scientists believe it’s thanks to the chemical capsaicin, which can trigger a thermodynamic burn that speeds up heart rate and boosts metabolism by as much as 25 per cent. “You sweat more, so the body’s working harder,” says Sutherland.
How to eat: Pair with lean protein to help process fat through the body.

9. Mustard, Indian curries

Why you can eat up: While more human testing is needed, a US study found that turmeric, the spice that adds colour to mustard and Indian curries, slows down the spread of fat tissue in animals and lowers blood glucose, triglyceride, fatty acid and cholesterol.
How to eat: Add turmeric to curry or casseroles. Try mustard on sandwiches instead of butter or mayonnaise.

10. Ginger and garlic

Why you can eat up: Ginger and garlic are vasodilators, expanding your blood vessels and boosting body heat. In turn, your metabolism speeds up a little (some animal studies found ginger increased metabolism by as much as 20 per cent).
How to eat: Add ground or fresh to curries and stir-fries. Add ginger to tea and fresh juice and garlic to salad dressings.

BOTOX for under arm sweating

BOTOX for under arm sweating

Leave the pit stains out the door

Our body produces sweat to keep itself cool, which is why you'll notice it dripping when something causes your temperature to rise. But it's not just hot and humid weather that causes you to sweat: Exercise, physical stress, emotional stress and nervousness can also make you sweat. About 1 percent of Americans, however, sweat excessively (as much as four times the normal amount) just going about their daily lives as their bodies try to sustain a normal temperature. It's a condition known as primary hyperhidrosis, and it most noticeably affects the palms of the hands, the feet and the armpits. People with this condition can be plagued with not only sweaty clothes and a soggy handshake, but also with skin infections and social embarrassment. This kind of sweat can't be tamed by over-the-counter antiperspirants. What does help? As it turns out, botulinum toxin type A, what we know as Botox.
BOTOX what is it?

Botox is the darling of celebrities because of its ability to smooth wrinkles, but it can also stop your sweat. This cosmetic treatment is actually a neurotoxin produced by the bacteria Clostridium botulinum (which is found in soil). It adversely affects our muscle control, causing drooping eyelids and blurry vision, difficulty breathing and swallowing, muscle weakness and paralysis. This ability to paralyze is what makes it useful in fixing furrows and, as it turns out, treating excessive sweating.

Why do we sweat?
Our skin -- specifically the middle layer, or dermis -- isn't made up of just collagen and elastin -- it's full of sweat glands, hair follicles, sebaceous glands (these produce oil), blood vessels and nerve endings. Our body secretes sweat from two types of glands, the eccrine and apocrine glands. Eccrine glands are located in the skin, all over the body. Apocrine glands, on the other hand, are located in places on the body where there's a high concentration of hair follicles, such as the scalp, armpits and groin area. These glands are controlled by the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems, the command center that also controls involuntary bodily functions such as breathing, digestion, body temperature, heart rate and blood pressure. When you have an increase in body temperature, your sympathetic nervous system automatically signals the sweat glands to cool your body.
How does it work?
When Botox is injected into the skin, the treatment affects the signal between the nerve endings and the sweat glands in the dermis. The botulism toxin binds itself to the nerve endings near the injection site and acts like a roadblock. It blocks the release of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine, a chemical our nerve cells make to communicate with each other, and this disrupts the message sent from the nerve endings to stimulate the production of sweat. The sweat glands are none the wiser.

History 101
In 2004, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved Botox injections to treat axillary hyperhidrosis(excessively sweaty armpits), and some doctors use it to treat palmar hyperhidrosis (excessively sweaty palms) and plantar hyperhidrosis (excessively sweaty feet). Each treatment may include several injection points concentrated in the affected area, and each treatment is expected to last about six months. Don't worry about blocking the sweat from one or two small areas of the body -- there are plenty of sweat glands to handle the job.

Latest Eye Trend

Eyeball Tattoos

Sagging pants – that’s so yesterday!  Never let it be said that criminals are not on the cutting edge of fashion.  The newest craze given to us from behind prison walls:  Eye Tattooing.
Prisoners have found a way to color the whites of their eyes to blue, black, red or any color in the rainbow.

The general process of this consists of a total of 40 injections into the eye to capture the proper pigment. The pigment is initially injected under the top layer of the eye using a syringe. At first a traditional needle that had ink on it was used, but the ink can not hold, so a syringe is used. To watch the process click HERE.

Although we don't know much about style-behind-bars, we were aware of the body piercing and the tattooing that goes on in the cells...but two prisoners have opened our eyes to the newest self-mutilating trend: eye tattoos that change the sclera to be blue or even red.

When asked why he would do this to himself, David Boltjes (whose eyes are red) poetically remarked, "You can't ask why...the real question is why not," and his fellow inmate, blue-eyed Paul Inman explained that now, no one in the world would have the same color peepers as he has. Neither man would say how they managed to color their eyeballs, but both concurred it was extremely painful.

The San Diegan’s Guide to Father’s Day

Father's day gift guide

Father’s Day undoubtedly brings up fond memories.  Whether it’s the time dad taught you how to play catch (and still has the scars to prove it) or that weekend he pretended to be upset that you and your first boyfriend broke up, Dads are true heroes and deserve to be recognized for all they've done.

Let’s be honest though, buying gifts can be incredibly hard, and, sure, it’s always simple to take the easy way out with a tie or coffee mug, but don’t you think he deserves something special this year?  We’ve put together this handy guide of great Father’s Day gifts and activities for every type of dad, from the obsessed tech geek to the beer aficionado.

Gadget Geek

We're sure your dad will be appreciative of whatever you get for him on Father’s Day, and while a heartfelt card and hug are nice, they probably can’t compare to a cutting-edge tablet.  Check out Fry’s Electronics (every SoCal residents staple) for the latest gadgets to make Dad a hit around the watercooler.  If he’s got all the latest toys, hook him up with some older ones!  Rising Sun Comic store is having their grand opening this month and you’ll be sure to get something Marvel-ous (see what we did there?).  If you’re looking to go all out for Dad this year, make sure he can reduce eye strain by giving him perfect, superhero-like vision with LASIK from Global Laser Vision.  They’re offering free consultations and eye exams, and have some of the best financing available (plus a military discount), so why not give the gift that keeps on giving?

Sport dads gift ideas

Ok, some men are the traditional types.  If your Dad was the kind to throw hot dogs on the grill while yelling at you to ‘rub some dirt on it and stop crying’ (traumatic and oddly motivating at the same time…), he’ll really appreciate some one-on-one bonding that involves physical activity.  The obvious answer to your gift query is to take him to a Padres game!  You can check out their schedule here, and make a day of it by swinging through downtown San Diego’s much loved WhiskeyGirl after the game.  They’re currently offering $30 towards food and drinks for only $15, so this is the perfect gift for a kid on a budget.   Looking to branch out a bit?  Get a sun filled work out on the water by taking Dad kayaking at OEX!  They’ve got two awesome locations at Mission Beach and Point Loma, and have an exclusive Father’s Day promo running for 20%off rentals and 5% off retail.  Did you know that at OEX you can buy Pop one of the 'Made-in-California' fishing kayaks from Malibu Kayaks?  They are the most popular kayak manufacturer available right now, just check out their Facebook page!  If your Dad enjoys fishing with live bait, OEX recommends checking out the Stealth series with the patented livewell system. With the sunny SoCal weather and reflective beaches, combine your kayaking trip with some rad sports sunglasses outfitted with the latest technology, ‘Digital Lenses’.  You can read some more info on them by clicking the link, and if you’re hooked swing by Global Laser Optical to check out their selection.

Food Fan

The Foodie Father bonds most over, you guessed it, food, and how can we hate them for that? (Despite the fact that swimsuit weather and bacon doughnuts don’t necessarily go hand-in-hand)  Unless you’re a Michelin starred chef, take Dad to one of San Diego’s finest Gastro Pubs and enjoy the gift with him!  Luce Kitchen and Bar is a stylish favorite, with staples like lamb tacos, the smoked tri-tip sandwich, and an extensive tap list, you’ll both be hooked.  If you’re looking for a gift that keeps giving all year long, why not smooth Dad over with an artisan ‘Beer of the Month’ subscription?  Yes, they really exist.

San Diego dad

Our next suggestions could possibly count as a gift to mom (or Dad’s latest date), but with all that food and beer he’s hitting, help Dad keep his figure with some personal training at the luxury Gym In Coronado.  Ocean views, state of the art equipment, and some of Coronado’s finest restaurants nearby help neutralize that eggplant parm he’s planning to order.  Never fear though, you can always work on that remaining ‘pooch’ by getting him the amazing Viora service at Global Laser Cosmetics.  This machine has been nicknamed the ‘fat melting’ device, and it actually works!  Read more about the cellulite blasting, skin tightening, waistline reducing miracle here.  Last but not least, we did mention Bacon Doughnuts.  BACON doughnuts.  If you haven’t stopped by The Doughnut Bar downtown, you’re missing out.  Just make sure you swing by early, because once they’re out, they’re gone for the day!

·         Viora, the cellulite and fat reducing machine
·        Gastro pub: Luce kitchen and Bar
·         Gym In Coronado – personal training
·         The Donut Bar : San Diego’s best donuts!

There you are San Diego, the top gift ideas for any Dad.  What are you planning to gift Dad with this Father’s Day?  Let us know in the comments below!

Bro-tox : The Man's survival Kit

Bro-tox : The Man's survival Kit

Botox is the most popular aesthetic treatment in the world. In 2011, 300,000 U.S. men received Botox for facial wrinkles.   The spotlight can become vanity's victim and the search for something bigger and better turns wants into needs.  For example take a look at the American Idol cast, Ryan Seacrest reportedly overdid the Botox back in Season 2 of American Idol. When he turned up to work with a frozen
face and told the producers that he had undergone Botox injections to get rid of wrinkles on his face, they reportedly banned him from further treatments.  Ryan’s co-host Simon Cowell also admitted to Botox treatments as well.
Botox treatments in men should be subtle, not obvious.  Every face looks different on the surface, so too does the anatomy of the muscles and soft tissues under the skin and it’s crucial to take account of this when performing the treatment. The goal of the treatment should always be to leave you looking rested and rejuvenated, which is why a tailored approach is so crucial to achieve this. The upper face is the most commonly treated area with botox and indeed often delivers the best and most reliable results.
Treatment of the upper face is generally regarded as a painless experience and is generally associated with a low rate of complications and side effects. Most people find that the results last 4-6 months at a time although gradually the duration of results starts to increase after you have the treatment repeated several times.

With over 10 years of experience, Global Laser Cosmetics has been the premier location in San Diego to enhance your appearance and to provide you with all your skin care and cosmetic needs in Southern California. For your convenience, we offer a variety of treatments to help treat frown lines, crows feet, forehead wrinkles, and much more.

If you are looking to have BOTOX® Injections in San Diego give Global Laser Cosmetics a call today at 1-866-BEST-LOOKor 1-866-237-8566, or www.globallasercosmetics.com online today.
