8 tips for a smooth, happy day ahead

8 tips for a smooth, happy day ahead

Especially for that Monday with its terrible blues attacking you from all directions.A smooth and happy day doesn’t have to be hard. You just have to make the conscious choice of making things happen, rather than waiting for life to happen for you.
1) Make your bed in the morning
This isn't just about fostering a habit that improves your tidiness in your own room. It’s about kick starting your day proper and also showing how the little things in life matter.
As US Navy Admiral William H. McRaven puts it, “”If you make your bed every morning you will have accomplished the first task of the day. It will give you a small sense of pride and it will encourage you to do another task and another and another.”
It’s the little things that matter indeed.
2) Think of the goodness you contribute to when you pay bills
Maybe this is a little tricky as nobody likes to pay bills.
Well, instead of whining about it, think about the goodness you’re creating when you’re paying them. You’re helping the phone company’s employees maintain their jobs. You’re allowing them to have money to buy food and shelter for their loved ones.
And no, it’s not a stretch when you think that way. Give it a whirl.
3) Switch off all music when you’re working
I know, I know. “But I’m playing songs with no lyrics in them”, is what you’re thinking now.
But the thing is, playing music can be very counter productive as you’re constantly multi-tasking to switch songs or typing in new tracks on YouTube. So even if they’re soothing, background music, it could be wasting more time than you think.
4) Go to work late if possible
That way, you can avoid peak hour for your commute. Try this out if it’s possible. Work it out with your boss. It’d be worth it to not have to deal with a crowded bus or train and of course, to be able to sleep in.
5) Leave the office late
And on the flip side, leave the office late for the same benefits as above.
With most people always in a rush in today’s world, it can very suffocating to be in the same crowded and hectic environment.
If everybody wants to catch a break, you probably can’t get it if there’s so much competition around.
6) Tell someone you’re grateful for them
This is a play on the quintessential, “Good deed of the day” practice, which ironically, a lot of people don’t adhere to.
So instead of doing a good deed, tell someone you’re grateful for them instead. Not only are you expressing yourself; your love for somebody, but it’d make your day and even your entire life as you realize how important you are to someone, and how that someone is important to you. Never take things for granted.
7)  Get that one uncomfortable task out of the way early
Nobody likes feeling uncomfortable. It’s pretty much what’s causing procrastination in us.
The way I see it, the whole point is to feel uncomfortable! It’s a sign of a good day ahead, that is, if you get it out of the way fast.
For me, I do twenty chin-ups in the morning any three days in a week. It’s not a regime or anything like that. It’s just a random burst of exercise and discomfort. Everything feels good after that.
You just know things will be good after that. Just rip off the band aid already.
8) Have your space and time alone
Everybody needs their own space. This means nobody should be around you, no social media , no email, no phones or whatever.
You need time alone to do nothing. This is where you breathe, quiet your mind and allow simple insights to come in.
We’re all so preoccupied with something that we forget nothing could be the answer. No matter what, always remember you’re doing things for your life. You aren’t doing things for the life supposedly thrown to you by society.

Sunglasses + San Diego = A good time

Sunglasses + San Diego = A good time

The adventures of a non-glass wearer

By Amy Contizano, ABOC

Living in San Diego, we’re all too familiar with the act of applying sunscreen as we’re spoiled enough to live minutes away from beaches.  So you’re packing up for a day at the beach and you apply sunscreen and you bring more sunscreen along to reapply later, but what about sunscreen for your eyes?  It’s hard to believe, but many people overlook sunglasses.  “Well, I lose my sunglasses all the time so I just buy the cheap ones at the drug store” or “I got these because they were super cute but the tint seems kind of light”.  Does any of that sound familiar?

Sunglasses aren’t just a fashion choice but also a way to provide protection against the dangers of UV radiation.  Think about it, you’re out in Pacific Beach or strolling through our world famous San Diego Zoo and though you’ve applied sunscreen, you can still feel the warmth of the sun on your skin, prompting you to reapply sunscreen to protect yourself.  Do you do the same for your eyes?  Ultraviolet radiation, or UVR, cannot be seen with the naked eye and can cause damage in a number of eye related areas.  In 2013, the Vision Council did a study revealing that 40% of adults don’t wear sunglasses while outdoors, making them susceptible to major ocular issues that can easily be avoided with one simple step.

I’m not trying to get all scare tactics on you by any means.  I just think that this is one of those things that people don’t think about.  I mean, what harm can the sun really do to your eyes?  Well, for starters, the skin around the eyes is quite delicate so not wearing a good pair of sunglasses that are large enough to cover that area could lead to wrinkles and cancer of the eyelids and skin around the eyes.  UVR can also cause cataracts which is the clouding of the lens of the eye.  Benign growths can form on the eye’s surface due to excessive exposure to UVR and patients could also develop photokeratitis.  This condition is also called snow blindness, a temporary yet painful sunburn on the surface of the eye.  Comfortable vision is compromised without having sunglasses to block out the glare created by sunlight reflecting off of various surfaces.

So what exactly do you need to be on the lookout for when searching for that perfect pair of sunglasses that both protects your eyes and makes you look good?  Well, you want to make sure that the lenses are of ophthalmic quality, but what does that mean exactly?  It means the lens is of the same type of quality that is used for prescription lenses unlike the inexpensive lenses used in sunglasses that can be found at drug stores or gas stations.  Because the lenses are of a higher quality, they’ll block 99-100% of both UVA and UVB radiation.

Another option available for superior sun protection is to do polarized lenses, which reduce much more glare than a traditional sunglass tint would.  A good example of this is that if you were a fisherman and you were standing on the deck of your boat, wearing a lens with a sunglass tint would make things darker and block out the light, but you’d see the reflection of the sun bouncing off of the water’s surface.  Now, if you were wearing a polarized lens, then the glare would be eliminated so dramatically that you’d be able to see down into the water to see the fish.

At Global Laser Vision, we’re thrilled to provide you with the cutting edge technology of Maui Jim sunglasses.  Their patented polarized lenses give you the best clarity of vision with crisp lines and colors that pop allowing you to see clearly and comfortably even on the brightest, sunniest days as well as on those overcast days when glare is at an all time high.  Maui Jim sunglasses are available in prescription as well and are by far the best lens on the market to protect your eyes.  Here at Global Laser Vision, we introduce new styles frequently.  Stop in to see us and find out what your sunny life in SD can look like through a great pair of sunglasses!

What Are The Benefits of Eye Plugs & What Do They Do?

Dry eye is a condition that millions of Americans deal with daily.  Sometimes, simple home remedies or over-the-counter eyedrops relieve people's scratchy, irritated eyes, but most continue to suffer.  AngioTech created the perfect solution with the UltraPlug Permanent Punctal Plug - simple, pain free and long lasting relief!  The plugs work by temporarilyblocking the tear drainage channel, in the inner corner of the eye, which keeps more moisture in the eye.  These are especially effective for all you post-op LASIK patients who have experienced drier than normal eyes!  Interested but want some more info?  Give us a call or check out this great article here: AllAboutVision.com

FYI : LASIK and It's side affects!

San Diego LASIK Center : Global Laser Vision

What are the most common side effects of laser vision correction?

We are answering all your questions on why you should take the next step to a better future!

CustomVue Wavescan
  1. Fluctuating Vision. After LASIK, the eye can continue to heal for up to 3 months after the date of surgery. A small number of patients may notice vision fluctuations during this healing process. NewLASIK technologies that we offer have greatly decreased the amount of time it takes for the eyes to heal. This, in turn, has decreased the vision fluctuations noticed during that time frame.
  2. Dry eyes. LASIK involved removing and reshaping tissue from the cornea, the clear front part of your eye. This tissue is also partly responsible for keeping the eye as moist as possible. After LASIK, we instruct our patients to use preservative-free artificial tears as often as possible. This not only makes your eyes feel better, it also promotes an ideal healing environment after surgery. Most patients only notice dryness for the first few weeks after surgery, if any.
  3. Night vision glare. LASIK involves reshaping only a small portion of your cornea. At night, the pupil of your eye gets bigger to allow more light in the eye. In many cases, the pupil extends past this LASIK treatment zone. This can cause the perception of glare or halos around traffic lights. New LASIK technologies, such as our CustomVue LASIK procedure, have greatly decreased this perception among our patients.

Digitize your life! - Digital Lens

Digitize your life!

By Amy Contizano, ABOC

With technology evolving as quickly as it is, it’s no wonder that the optical industry is constantly changing and improving.  A really great lens technology has come out in recent years that I feel most people still don’t know about, Free Form digital lenses, giving patients high definition vision.

As most patients can attest, especially contact lens wearers, there comes a point with a conventional lens where things just aren’t as crisp and clear as they could be.  This is because as your eye tracks to different parts of the lens, the prescription varies slightly as you get further and further away from the optical center which is where the best clarity is achieved.  With digital lens technology, they have been able to calculate your optimal prescription throughout the lens, giving you that optical center clarity throughout the entire lens.  This enhances your vision by giving you more crisp vision and better clarity and results in what patients have been calling HD vision.

This sort of technology is especially great for patients who have high prescriptions.  Digital lenses will greatly enhance vision for patients with high prescriptions.  It’s a great option for patents who wear contact lenses as well.  Contact lens wearers are always telling me that their vision isn’t as clear with glasses as it is with their contacts.  This is because with the contact lens directly on the eye, everywhere you look things are nice and clear and when you switch back to glasses the prescription changes throughout the lens become more noticeable.  Digital lenses are a great way to get seamless, high definition vision.

Global Laser Vision is excited to announce the introduction of our high end eye wear package.  A package valued at $587 which includes the selection of a new Viva Collection frame, thin and lightweight Shamir Spectrum digital lenses with a SharpView non-glare coating is available to Global Laser Vision patients for $250.  Additional fees will apply for upgrades such as Transitions lenses that darken when outdoors or to make them polarized for sunglasses.  A 20% courtesy will be applied on additional pairs of glasses purchased outside of the package deal.  Stop in today to see what high definition vision will do for you!

I'm not crazy...
